Analgesia and Sedation in Critically Ill Adult Patients Admitted to a COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit

Abstract The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), causing the COVID-19 has spread globally, prompting world health organization (WHO) to declare a pandemic. As of January 2, 2021, about 82,579,768 laboratory-confirmed cases had been reported WHO with 1,818,849 deaths (https://covid19.who.int). pandemic severely impacted care systems around world, resulting in vast number surgical procedures being cancelled or postponed and an unprecedented burden on intensive units (ICU). A critical component perioperative ICU services delivery is provision analgesia sedation. Volatile inhalational anesthetics combined opioids are widely used operating room, whereas ICUs, intravenous drugs for this purpose. Although target-controlled infusions not routinely context thematic series total anesthesia during pandemic, article will focus key aspects sedation management critically ill patients admitted following positive swab test SARS-CoV-2 RNA.
